MCM Craig & Karl „Eyes on the Horizon“ Sommer Party in London

Rahmen

Karl hingegen wohnt in London.

———————————-

After my small preview on Friday, I would like to focus more in detail on the successful collection of Pop-Art-Duo Craig&Karl, which was celebrated last Thursday at the London MCM Store. Matching the colored prints of the collection, the guests – amongst others Tinie Tempah, Pixie Geldof and Henry Holland – celebrated a summery party with delicious cocktails, ice cream and good music, some records spun by it-girl Amber Le Bon. Of course the momentarily much-loved photo booth was there as well, and so we posed both with the grand MCM-logo dog and motley XXL-shades. My snapshot you can see here. A very nice evening, where I met lots of interesting people and where I had a great time with Janina and Tiany.

Now back to the collection, though, it was of course the reason for this happy get-together in London. The limited collection “Eyes on the Horizon” includes 16 pieces that are embellished with different colored prints and the classic MCM logos. With this collection MCM wanted to present its admirers an overlap between art and fashion, and the label from Munich succeeded with this plan. The graphics designed by Craig&Karl show summery motives, focusing on playful sets of eyes and also summery palm trees. Even their choice of color is great and is meeting fully my taste. Next to the classic MCM-Cognac, there now is a bright green Clutch-bag and loud and trendy blue models. Josie looooooooves!

The day after, MCM invited a handful of bloggers to the beautiful restaurant Coya (a dream-location!) for lunch and I not only had the chance to chat with the president of MCM, Sung-Joo Kim, but also sat right across the designer Craig Redman. Craig already created a collection for MCM two years ago, which I also showed on Josie loves (Click!). 2011 he teamed up with his friend Karl Maier, who is also from Australia. Craig moved to New York 7 years ago, where he since lives and works very successfully. Karl instead lives in London. “How does such a close cooperation work, when there is such a distance between you?” I wanted to know from Craig. “We skype daily, it works very well!” told me the artist. Cheers to the WWW at this place! A very nice and down-to-earth art duo that is not only very creative but also very likeable. Just like the whole MCM-Team, that enchanted me during both these days. I was very happy to get the chance to talk to the designers, the whole leadership board and owner Sung-Joo Kim. No formal conversation but a relaxed, even warm chitchat with very interesting people. Especially as Sung-Joo Kim started to talk, we were very fond about how pleasant one of the most successful businesswomen was. She talked about the beginnings of MCM, how she bought the run-down business in 2005 and built it back up. Her first big coup was to get a German designer on board. Michael Michalsky revitalized MCM and dusted the wounded image with his designs. Everything else is history. MCM blossomed a second time and is an internationally highly recognized luxury business by now. You’ll see the classic logos not only on Seoul’s streets but also in New York or Berlin, just like the big shoppers in loud and trendy colors. Another very important part of MCM’s DNA is the cooperation with young artists, where modern designs meet the traditional MCM-logo. Here we are back at Craig&Karl and their marvelous collection “Eyes on the Horizon”, which I am now finally going to show you in pictures.
